The whitish, granular buildup called keratin debris is the source of most toenail and fingernail discoloration. The 12-month, single-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-design, usage study reported a significant difference between the ethanoic acid gel and placebo gel in terms of nail clarity and color, as well as amount of nail containing keratin debris. After 12 months of twice daily application, 100% of subjects using NonyX Gel showed improved primary toenail color/clarity and a reduction in the amount of debris, versus placebo scores of 44% and 33% respectively. Significant improvement in nail appearance (translucency, color) occurred at month 5 on small nails and at month 9 on the primary toenail, compared to placebo.
