For Straightening: Curlaway allows you to control how
much curl you want to remove. If your curls are very tight, start
with the 9-hour overnight treatment, pulling gelled hair as straight
as possible (by flattening to head, tying back with a band, wrapping
around rollers, pressing to your scalp with a du-rag or pulling
hair into two ponytails, then wrapping the "tail" end around large
Velcro rollers and pulling them up to the top of the head). It
is important to keep the gel moist by covering your gelled hair
with a bandana or scarf. If the gel starts to dry under the bandana
or scarf, spritz your hair with water. Even hair wrapped flat
to the scalp under a ball cap will work (children prefer this
style!). Rinse out gel and optionally shampoo. Finish with your
favorite conditioner. For fastest results, towel dry hair and
apply a small amount of the Curlaway with your hands and distribute
evenly through damp hair or just to the areas with excess curl,
such as the ends or roots. Comb or brush your hair smooth and
then air dry keeping your hair straight with a tie-back or taut
on big, Velcro rollers OR blow-dry pulling hair straight with
a brush or comb attachment. (Hint: Air-drying results in shinier
hair with no dry ends!) For optimum styling and added smoothness
and body, finish with heat-rollers or a flat-iron. Also, if you
need to use any clips, use plastic rather than metal ones.
Continue reapplying Curlaway Gel until your hair is
as straight as you like, then repeat treatments only when you
see evidence of re-curling (or when a high-humidity spell causes
frizz or more curl than you want).
For frizz: If you are relaxing moderate curl or removing
frizz, apply the gel for 3 hours (after pulling or pinning hair
into a straight style). Finish with a small leave-in application
(apply a dime-size dollop to your palm and spread gel through
hair with your fingers) and air or blow dry, per directions for
straightening.
For Maintenance: Between full treatments apply a small
amount of Curlaway Relaxer Gel as a leave-in styling aid. Squeeze
a small amount of Gel into your palm and distribute with your
fingers through either wet or dry hair, then brush or comb through
for even distribution. This use of Curlaway Gel also reduces frizz
on humid days.
Use of Gel to relax a permanent wave:Test the
time required to relax an overly-curly permanent wave by applying
to one lock of hair first and then repeating procedure on full
head of hair.
Apply Gel to clean, wet hair, pull straight and roll tightly on
a large roller, or pull hair straight using a tie-back. Leave
gel on hair for 4 hours. Rinse off with warm water. Use your favorite
conditioners. Blow dry pulling hair straight OR allow hair to
dry naturally again after pulling it straight, or setting on large
rollers. If your hair is not relaxed sufficiently, reply Gel and
leave on overnight, repeating the 4-hour treatment steps. Repeat
either 4 hour or overnight applications until perm is sufficiently
relaxed. Optionally, apply gel after every shampoo to prevent
frizz.
Wrap method of applying Curlaway
Twist method of applying Curlaway
After Curlaway Gel is applied overnight, hair is washed,
conditioned and blown dry.
For the smoothest, straightest results, use a blow-dryer
with a brush or comb-attachment, letting the hair fall forward.
